Good Morning Everyone!
The weather may be for the ducks, but my world has been bombarded with chickens. I don't have the heart to tell Donna I'm not giving them away, I've imprinted to them, I just can't let them go. Addie and I are taking a little road trip to see Jen at Yarn in Waterbury tomorrow to collect (5) more chickens. THANK-YOU JEN!!! The timing of all these warm fuzzy feelings couldn't be better, I've been struggling with more health issues and feeling pretty down about it all.
Yesterday, Donna came over so we could get our "chickens in a row" before they get rehomed to the downtown businesses. I finally figured out my system to stay organized, better late than never I suppose. I wish this little epiphany had entered my consciousness weeks ago. Want to hear it??? Stick a piece of masking tape with the Creator's name along with the Chicken's vs the stupid list I made which doesn't tell me who made which chicken. I will say, I was pretty good at remembering who belonged to who. I did need to contact Nicole, I simply could not remember which one was Roosterford B. Hayes. I may still have a few of Sandy's misnamed, but she made (7) of them and the only one I know for sure is Truffle. She's brown like chocolate (YUM) with raspberry colored stripes which tastes delicious with chocolate. Lord knows I love chocolate lol....As I was organizing my little hen house of chickens, it made me feel so good. I am surrounded by a wonderful community of friends that come together and make things happen. A big THANK-YOU to everyone who has supported the BROODHAHA. I even decided to donate Dixie Chick to the cause, of course, I plan to bid on her lol...The deadline to drop off your chicken is August 22nd.
While I'm thanking people, a big shout out to CARRIE!! She graciously came up to the shop last Thursday and Friday and opened up for the last part of the day while I laid in bed dying (yes a bit dramatic, I put Sarah Bernhardt to shame). She also stepped in to help out on Saturday and could have very easily handled everything on her own, but guess who just couldn't leave well enough alone? I'd finally made it out of my bed on onto my glider by Saturday, the perfect vantage point to watch the driveway, see where this is going? What turned into innocently walking over to run a credit card led me to staying in the shop the entire day. Paid for that mistake Saturday night, which meant I had to admit to Addie I'd disobeyed her orders. She loves nothing more than to hear me say I was wrong, which I mumbled into my pillow....The good news is, I've been resting and each day my symptoms are getting better. I WILL BE AT STITCH AND BITCH TOMORROW!
I finished my Windrock sweater, it's almost dry! I'm going to brag about how beautiful my seams are the the FANTASTIC job I did picking up the stitches around the neckline and the underarms. I AM GOOD!!!! 100% credit goes to the person who posted the video on Instagram demonstrating the technique, it is brilliant. I'll also remind you of a little tip I've shared before. Use reinforcing sock yarn to sew your seams, the colors don't have to be exact if you do it correctly. I discovered that Millstone Tweed sucks for seaming, especially if you use the mattress stitch (which I highly recommend). The biggest insult/compliment you can give a knitter is that their sweater looks "ready made." I don't believe this statement needs further explanation.
I cast on my Autumn Alpine sweater and decided I didn't like the yarn I bought at Scratch. The gauge was loose and I stupidly only bought (4) skeins and not (5) so playing yarn chicken. I'm sure it would have been much better on a smaller needle, but I was afraid I would run out of yarn even if I did my signature 3/4 sleeves. Don't worry, I already have a plan, it's getting paired with some black mohair and I'm going to make that cute little James N Watts Rib Lace Raglan. I decided to grab the Lanas Light in a lovely shade of Eggplant, actually Carrie helped me decide, are you shocked? I am cruising along, the color work is just gorgeous!! My boss has informed me that I need to get through the color work chart before tomorrow evening. She's delusional, but challenge accepted. I'll share another one of my little secret "ah, ha" moments with you. I decided to substitute Invisible left and right leaning increases for M1L and M1R. My floats were showing through the places that called for Make 1, it looked horrible. Then I remembered that Jenn Steingass introduced me to the Lifted Invisible Increases when I knit the Golden Fern. I am thrilled that it worked, the floats no longer float to the front.
We will be meeting tomorrow evening, Wednesday 6-7:30, for Stitch and Bitch, I hope you can join in the fun. Make it a great day and I'll see you soon!
Katy
