How Many Days?

Good Morning Everyone!

Don't you remember feeling the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas was like, A YEAR? I can...My Mimi would barely have the Thanksgiving dinner cleaned up and by the following day, the house was completely transformed into "Christmas." It was the longest stretch of time I could imagine. What I've come to realize is just how organized she was and the tremendous amount of preparation that went into her seemingly effortless display of holiday cheer. That woman was famous for dotting the "I's" and crossing the "T's", twice....I, on the other hand, seem to have fallen into between my Mom and my Mimi. There's absolutely no way I can begin to compete with my Mimi, I get exhausted just thinking about it. My Mom's approach would put me in a mental hospital, her method of operation can best described as "absolute frenzy", at the last minute. I did, however, start feeling a bit crunched for time when I realized how much I needed to get done and the time I had in which to do it.

I must say, I'm pretty proud of myself, I've channeled my "Holiday Anxiety" into something rather manageable and productive. I went to Vickie's last week to make a wreath, I invited myself over thinking we'd have fun chatting while making wreaths. Vickie is a pro, no two ways about it, the only contribution I made in making my wreath was picking out the ribbon for the bow. She uses some contraption to secure the boughs to the wreath that I envisioned getting my fingers taken off with. She was demonstrating just how easy it was to use, I wasn't buying it at all, and asked her to show me one more time so I could be sure. I did this several times before she caught on to my antics and made the damn wreath for me. It is a beautiful wreath and I didn't sacrifice any fingers.

What better way to get into the holiday spirit than to get your Christmas tree in the rain? (the guy we bought it from was wearing shorts) That is precisely what we did AND we even finished putting up our exterior decorations. From the outside, I appear to be ready, I must say, turning on the Christmas lights does put me in the holiday mood, this is the cue for some SNOW!!! I'm certainly not out of the woods yet, I have plenty more to do, but I'm actually feeling in front of the 8 ball for once. I will admit, I realized that I kind of had to get ahead of things, Addie and I are going to Columbus, OH December 18th-21st which doesn't leave much time afterwards for anything other than wrapping, which my mother famously did until 3:00 a.m. Christmas morning, my brother would get up at 4:00...

I'm officially on sleeve island with my Meissa, it's perfect timing, I need something mindless to work on. My thoughts have been bombarded with everything that has to get done along with busy days in the shop. I'm really excited that I've been meeting so many new customers, and guess what? THEY CROCHET!!! I finally took Andra's suggestion and restocked crochet hooks, it makes perfect sense, right? I sold one on Saturday and helped my "new" friend find some yarn to create an adorable stuffed animal. I really think it's time for me to up my skill set and try getting more comfortable with crochet (Andra just fell out of her chair). I was on a Zoom meeting yesterday with Berroco's design team, they were talking about the Spring/Summer collection that features a ton of crochet. They have several "easy" patterns that I think I would be able to tackle, smaller projects that wouldn't overwhelm (that is key). I may just need to grab a hook and start practicing, I am familiar with it, just not well acquainted (I think Andra is still on the floor).

Carrie came up with the brilliant idea to do an Advent type sale each day in December. I will be posting the video on Facebook (both my business and personal accounts) and Instagram the night before so you can see what the daily special will be. Last week I was offering 20% off ALL kits and on Saturday, you received 15% off if you wore something you'd knit or crocheted. There are some great deals to be had, so stay tuned!!! I just placed an order with Malabrigo yesterday for more Rios and Rasta, I have some new colors coming!! I received a big box full of Silk Mohair from Berroco last week, and I will be ordering more Queen of Hearts from Wonderland hopefully today. For those of you who participated with the Advent Calendars, the yarn Carrie suggested for the project was Queen Of Hearts. It is a luxury fingering weight blend of merino, cashmere and a touch of nylon. I am excited to hear your thoughts on this yarn now that you have some to work with.

We will be meeting tomorrow evening, Wednesday from 6-7:30, I hope you can join in the fun. Make it a great day and I'll see you soon!

Katy
