Good Morning Everyone!
I guess Mother Nature likes Memorial Day better than Maple Festival. Is it safe to say that yesterday was the most beautiful day of 2025? I don't know what it was like in your corner of the universe, but my front porch provided the most ideal conditions. Sunny, warm, breezy, not hot, no mosquitoes, no humidity. A far cry from my mindset last week, I was in such a funk over the weather of all stupid things. And misery certainly loves company, I was hiking this morning and my phone goes off, it's Vickie, texting me "Two Days In A Row!" with a background of the sunrise this morning. May is usually my slowest month, I just realized something really interesting, thanks to all this rain, I've actually had the best May on record. It's never too rainy to knit...I have the sweaters to prove it.
Speaking of too rainy to knit, how is everyone doing with their Stitch A Day in May calendars? Did it help you get through a challenging section? Did you finish a project? Did you start a project? I've been struggling a bit with my Stromboli sweater, more than discovering that my stitch count was off by two stitches after I finished the ribbing, ugh...I have no idea how it's even possible, I cast on 274 stitches marking every 50, recounting etc...Carrie and I both came up with 272, fixable for sure, but puzzling nonetheless. I've made very little progress on this sweater, is it still considered "knitting" if you're just holding the project? I feel like there's been an awful lot of that going on. I take it out, assess the situation and just stare at it. I've had a bit of trouble establishing the set up row, I can't read my stitches, they're small, I'm blind, I can't find my glasses...I'm seriously considering tearing it out and reknitting the ribbing, I hate 1x1 ribbing I should have k1tbl, p1 it would have looked better. Jury is still out, no verdict yet, I picked up my Anita cardigan so I could gain a little perspective.
In case you missed the memo, I finished my Misurina pullover! I was able to wear it for a few hours this past Saturday during KAL before changing into a warmer sweater. It fits perfectly, it survived my math skills! This was the sweater with too many stitches/inch that I didn't want to change the gauge so I changed the size, it worked! Carol Feller has this nifty little equation you can use to determine which size to knit given your gauge. I know there are people whose minds simply work that way, mine is not one of them. It is sheer genius, almost inconceivable that mathematics comes into play, that people not only figure this shit out, they want to...pretty clear where I stand in this argument, let me knit...I consider myself a genius if I can figure out which number goes where in the equation.
If you haven't seen my new Moonshine (aka Bootlegger) Yarn by Juniper Moon Farm, you must! Aside from the actual display being one of the coolest things EVER!!! The colors are amazing and it is soooo soft! Elizabeth Smith's Audrey Pullover would be perfect, Amy Christoffer's Felix Cardigan or Pullover, Caitlin Hunter's Oksa, Jen Steingass' Avena, so many sweaters!! Speaking of so many sweaters, we've decided to knit Elenor Mortenson's Renaissance Sweater as our next KAL. I have the color card for Moonshine Fine, and I just received another shipment of Making Tracks Lite from Junction Fiber Mill. Stop by to check out the colors and pattern, it's a lovely sweater, her designs are absolutely incredible.
