With Wisdom Comes Age....

Good Morning Everyone!

Time just flies the older I get. It's like riding down a big hill on a bike without brakes (and no helmet). I've had lots of time to literally sit and knit the past 6 days, especially once I decided my surgery recovery would go a lot quicker if I STOPPED MOVING AROUND!!! I erroneously believed one day of sitting in bed on Thursday was enough respite for me to "sit" in my shop on Friday, NOPE. Paid for that stupidity Saturday, Sunday and most of Monday. Are you waiting for the wisdom part?? It did kick in, right after the painkillers took hold of me which I didn't even want, but stubborn is stupid and wore both like a shiny gold star. I know I'm not a good patient, I only sit quietly when I don't want to do something like dust the dining room. I think I learned my lesson. I have been given the green light to go for short walks, but I've got another week of taking it easy. Let's see how many Chickens I can crank out...

I am almost finished with my Tresse sweater by Isabell Kraemer, IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!! IT IS PINK!!! Like Barbie pink lol I can't even believe I now have THREE pink sweaters. I can't wait to show off what a lovely job I did picking up the stitches around the neckline and those dreaded cast on stitches of the underarm NO HOLES!!!! I stumbled across a video on Instagram (which I shared) I was completely dumbfounded by how perfectly it solved the problem of holes and stretched out stitches. Let's face it, we can all kind of fudge the underarm, who walks around with their arms up in the air? But the neckline??? I've picked up tens of thousands of stitches, not always very successfully, but hey, it's handmade. Well, that excuse is no longer an option and I no longer need a crochet hook, which does help. This old dog learned a new trick, you're never too old or experienced to add a technique to your arsenal.

Knitting is a skill that is NEVER MASTERED!!! I don't care how long you've been knitting, if you're not constantly learning something from every single project you do you will never grow. I'm not saying life changing epiphanies, but some projects teach us patience, some teach us humility, it's not always a new skill but perhaps something about ourselves. I recently heard from a friend that was questioning whether or not she had the "characteristics of the type of knitter that I so desperately want to be." Her state of mind was "I'm a terrible knitter, I might have to quit knitting." This was due to not being able to get the stripes on her sleeves to match, what an epic failure, throw in the towel for sure...In the year or so that I've had the pleasure of getting to know this woman, she's gone from knitting Super Bulky cowls with pretty rudimentary skills to Caitlin Hunter's Alpine Bloom sweater! Nothing has been off the table for her, the sweaters she takes on are challenging but it doesn't deter her from trying and succeeding. What she has accomplished in a very short amount of time is admirable, and honestly crazy!! I am so proud of her ambition and drive I had to remind her that I started knitted the year she was born, she has some time to develop her knitting characteristics, it doesn't happen overnight. Enjoy the process, it's a lot more fun to smell the roses as you go than to trample over them and finding only the thorns. Stay calm and knit on....

So we're halfway through July, I could vomit, I won't mention Christmas lol...Carrie and I have already figured out this year's Advent Calendar boxes OMG!!!! Not to mention, my Fall/Winter yarns are starting to arrive, I received a big box of Millstone Tweed by Berroco last week. The entire collection is STUNNING!!! It was, by far, my most favorite collection. I also have Julie Asselin's information and will be taking a look at her yarn colors so we can order the Boucle for our Fall KAL, Andrea Mowry's Morning Rituals. A big thank-you to everyone who has been involved with knitting and crocheting Emotional Support Chickens for the Broodhaha. I'm not going to want to give them up, they are so cute. A gentle reminder that we will be Yarn Hauling next Wednesday, July 24th, let me know if you want to go. So far I have, Carrie, Emma, Susan, Carla, Sandy AND ME!!!

We will be meeting tomorrow evening, Wednesday 6-7:30, for Stitch and Bitch, I hope you can join in the fun. Make it a great day and I'll see you soon!
